Brad Smith, Medical Outreach Coordinator
Brad and his wife Jesi never realized 15 years ago how their lives would change when their tiny baby, Faith was born.
Born with Trisomy 18, Faith’s fight had just begun and her parents learned quickly that they had to advocate diligently for their little girl.
During their journey, they realized that many other medically complex families faced the same challenges as they tried to advocate for their children and navigate hospitals and provider discrimination.
Now Brad and Jesi are fierce advocates for all medically complex children, and they help connect families to providers who are willing to go above and beyond, and simply treat special kids with fair care.
Faith is a thriving 15-year-old with full Trisomy 18, and Brad and Jesi are devoted advocates for all children.
Born Abel is a parent-led mission.
Born Abel parents help parents advocate for fair care.

Dr. Cooper leads one of the best cardiology teams anywhere in America. His team has helped children from all over the country, and they are very responsive. They are experts at caring for children with significant issues.
Dr. Green is an ENT and one of the leading airway doctors in the nation. He is an advocate for all children with medical complications; specifically Trisomy children with any airway issue. Dr. Green is a Born Abel approved doctor.
Dr. Marty Mccaffrey is a neonatologist with a broad knowledge for treating medically complex children. He is one of the giants in neonatology nationally and one of the biggest advocates anywhere for these children. Dr. Marty is a Born Abel approved Doctor.
Dr. James Hammel is a retired cardiac surgeon with extensive experience treating Trisomy children. He is still leading the way through his advocacy that these special children are worthy of the best care available.
It is important to us at Born Abel that all children are treated equally in their medical care no matter the diagnosis or genetic condition.
To help equip parents with providers who have the same goals as parents, Born Abel has surveyed families and will soon be publishing the results of hospital and provider rankings. These views are not ours as an organization but are provided directly from family experience. No Born Abel board member is allowed to participate in the survey, it is only a resource to families and for families in our community.
